Work the lab orders queue
Claim an order, encode its results, and get them validated and released.
Useful for Med tech Rad tech Clinic admin Doctor
- Open Lab Orders in the side bar. The number beside it shows how much is waiting.
- The list opens on Pending results. Change it to Claimed by me, For validation, Waiting for the doctor, Scheduled, Completed, With released results, All active orders or Cancelled, and narrow by who holds it with Claimed by (Anyone, No one, Me, Someone else). Search patient or test finds one.
- Choose Claim station on an order you are taking: one tech holds a station at a time, so nobody else starts the same work. Release claim hands it back.
- Choose the row's main button: Encode for a new result, Continue if parts are still missing, Edit Result for one already saved, Review or Validate when a result is waiting to be checked, Release Report for imaging.
- Fill in the result and save. A second person allowed to validate then validates and releases it, so it reaches the chart and the doctor.
Common questions
An order is not in Pending results.
It may be booked for a later date (Scheduled), already completed, or cancelled. All active orders shows everything open.
Why does the button say Validate instead of Encode?
A result has been entered and is waiting to be checked. A person allowed to validate sees Validate; others see Review.
Do I have to claim an order?
No, but claiming tells everyone else you are working on it, so two people do not encode the same order.
