Order labs
Raise a lab order and hand the patient a request slip.
Useful for Doctor Clinic admin Secretary Receptionist
- Open the patient, go to the Lab Orders tab, and choose Order labs.
- At the front desk (Receptionist), the form asks for the tests only, and they go to the clinic's own lab. When the clinic bills from lab orders, choose who pays under Charge to: the patient, or the company or HMO on the patient's chart, with its LOA / approval no.
- Set the Date of the request. Fill in Schedule for only when the tests are for a later date: the order then shows as Scheduled and is not due until then.
- On a plan with the in-house lab, choose the Processing: In-house (the clinic's own lab) or Outside lab. It starts on the clinic's default.
- Tick the tests, or type in Find a test. Star the ones you order often: they collect under My Tests at the top, and Only my tests hides the rest. A package from the price list (such as Basic 5) ticks all its tests at once; choose it again to untick them.
- For a test that is not on the list, type it under Other tests for this order only, or Add a test not on the list to My Tests to keep it for next time. In-house orders take only tests on the list.
- A yellow note under the tests warns when something may be drawn or billed twice: a test already inside a ticked panel, two panels that share tests, or a test already on one of the patient's orders not carried out yet. Use its Remove button, or leave it: Order asks once more (Order anyway or Go back).
- Add the Clinical impression and Remarks if you need them, look at the preview, and choose Order.
- On the order's card in the list, Open PDF and Print the Diagnostic Procedure Request slip (on a phone, Share takes the place of Print), or Email once it is signed. View opens the order to Edit or Delete it. An order a staff member raised waits for a doctor to Approve and sign, unless the clinic lets staff order those tests without approval.
- An in-house order is saved as one entry per section (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis and so on) and appears in Lab Orders in the side bar for whoever collects and encodes it. Once signed, it is billed from the price list when the clinic has billing from lab orders on: the order's message names the invoice and any test that has no price.
Common questions
A test I need is not in the list.
Type it under Other tests, or add it to My Tests. Also check that Only my tests is not hiding it.
Why does it warn that a test is already on an open order?
The patient has an order with that test that has not been carried out yet: waiting for a signature, signed with no result yet, or booked for a later day. Repeat tests after a result are normal and never warned about. Ordering anyway is allowed.
Who signs an order a secretary raised?
A doctor, with Approve and sign on the order. A clinic admin can let the front desk order a list of tests without approval in Clinic Settings › General › Lab orders.
Why can't I change the tests on an in-house order?
An in-house order with tests from more than one section is saved as one entry per section. You can still change its date, reason and remarks, or sign it; to change its tests or send it to an outside lab, delete it and order again. Once its result is released, the order is locked.
